I’ve never been a big believer in making new year’s resolutions, for the simple fact that people tend to set goals and never act upon them (the world is filled with good intentions right?)
This year, I’m resorting to making my resolutions and holding myself accountable for them. Therefore, I’m going to not set cliché resolutions, but instead, focus on realistic and attainable goals. After all, I’m forced to do this at work every year for my professional career, so, why shouldn’t I do something similar for my personal life? My hope is to post about my progress throughout the year so that I don’t fall into that category I despise so much…
In 2012, I resolve to….
1: Focus on healthier habits.
Every year, people always make weight loss their number one resolution; then come mid-March people always fall off the bandwagon. While I fully admit I don’t need to lose weight, I do need to spend a little less time on my tush. I also need to do a better job of taking care of myself and my family when it comes to our eating habits. Instead of the “I want to lose X pounds”, this year, I will focus only on increased physical activity and better nutrition. This seems a little more realistic than the alternatives.
2: Cross the finish line of a half marathon.
I have been trying my hand at running for the past three years. I’m a turtle, but I’ve enjoyed the 5K’s, 10K’s, and various relay races I’ve participated in thus far. This year, I’ve resorted to trying my hand at a half marathon. I’ve signed up for the Country Music Half Marathon on April 28, 2012. I’m not optimistic enough to set a time goal, but, I will cross that finish line come rain or shine! (Coincidentally, Resolution 1 goes hand-in-hand with Resolution 2: MOTIVATER)
3: Focus on controlling stress.
Given that I’m a tax accountant and I work crazy hours for a good chunk of the year, this may seem like somewhat of an unrealistic resolution. However, I love my job but I am the worst at saying no and a lot of the stress that piles up is my own fault. Therefore, 2012 will be the year I focus on the balancing of work and play so that I have time to enjoy the little things and be a better/happier person. That said, I want to hold myself accountable to this blog and focus on posting entries weekly rather than monthly. My goal is to redirect stress rather than projecting it. (This should make my husband happier too! BONUS!)
Do you have any new year’s resolutions? Make this the year you actually follow through! Cheers to 2012.
