Archives For January 2014

Meet Vanessa, the lovely and talented face behind ReadyDressedGo.

She is absolutely amazing and oh so much fun! And her blog, well, I spend a lot of time at my computer, but it’s always one of the first blogs I check daily. I absolutely adore her, and she’s a big fan — which doesn’t hurt either. ūüėČ

She recently had a post on her blog about blue lippies. And she has some awesome blue shoes, so, I’ve dedicated blue as her color for the interview! (Finding one that was easy on the eyes and still held to my point was difficult!)

Lights, Camera, Spotlight: Vanessa

Q1: So you have a blog. What was your inspiration & why do you do what you do?
I’ve always loved fashion & clothes & glamour ever since I can remember. I think as a child I watched “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” 10,000 times. The quality of fashion & beauty as a transformative device, where you can be whomever you want to be every single day is mesmerizing. Also, I’ve always loved art & making things, so making things to wear I have been doing since I was able to walk.

Q2: If you could spend a day 10,000 feet in the air with any fashion icon (past or present), who would you cozy up to and what ONE burning question would you ask?
I would pick Richard Avedon. My favorite photographer of all time. and I would ask, “how did you learn the most beautiful angles to highlight the human body?”

Q3: If you could time travel, what decade would you land in?
1965 London. I would have someone paint my body in a checkerboard print on the floor of a fabulous party.

Q4: QUICK! Your house is on fire and you can save only three personal belongings, (your family is already safe!) what are you fighting fire for?

1) My favorite 1970s “Foxy Brown” bright orangey red polyester dress, it’s the best piece of clothing I own. You can dress it up, down, for any season, it makes a statement, and I always get compliments.

2) My favorite piece of artwork in my home (which was made by my favorite artist, my friend Denyse

3) My black Mackage jacket, we’ve been together for years and I’m not going to let a little thing like a house fire tear us apart.

Q5: Oh hey! You were just nominated for an Oscar for your awesome role in that awesome winter blockbuster. Who will be making your dress for the Red Carpet?
I know EXACTLY what I would wear to the Oscars! Alexander McQueen’s 2003 Rainbow Shipwreck gown. That is exactly me.¬†

Q6: You recently got back from a trip to Nashville, where cowboy boots are a BIG THING. Most gals pair their boots with dresses, but, how would YOU style your boots?
Yeeeeeesh. This is a tough one. I LOVED the style of the people of Nashville, and had the best time there! But I grew up in a town where cowboy boots were functional wear! I was born & raised in the country! So there are a couple of things I just cannot wear because of that: cowboy boots, camouflage, and flannel.

But I think that if I had to have a pair I would pair them with leggings and a dress/skirt. Because boots + leggings + skirt/dress is my cute and comfy win win combo for life.

Q7: What is your signature lip color for a night out at Drag Queen Bingo?
OOOH!! Yes! MAC Morange or MAC Saint Germain! I LOVE a creamy opaque super bright lippy!

Q8: If you could advise new bloggers of anything you’ve learned in hindsight, what would you say?
Here is the best piece of advice I can give to bloggers: ALWAYS BE BLOGGING FOR YOURSELF. Do not blog for Money, or Fame, or to Be Cool, or Get Swag.

Do it because you love it, and you have something to say.

Because you shouldn’t be blogging to get the most page views, you should be blogging because it’s something that pours out of your heart. I love fashion, I love writing about it, I LOVE seeing the red carpet arrivals, and I love glamour and makeup.

I don’t know about you, but those are some DARN good responses. She’s just so amazing! Bloggers, her advice to you (us) is simply amazing and it’s why she and I tweet the #FashionUnfold events every month. Do it for YOU.

OK, my little rant is over. Because I know after those responses you are dying to see what I asked her for the fill-in-the-blank session!

Did you read my post on Tuesday about my quest for my new favourite fragrance? [Sephora Fragrance Sampler] Well, after I walked away and sat down with my blog calendar, I realised 14 weeks was WAY too long to drag out my quest! So, each week I will be testing out two fragrances instead of just one. Seven weeks is much more doable, and I’m less likely to forget which ones I like best, right?

And so, today I will ponder on Gucci’s Guilty and Marc Jacobs’ Daisy.

Gucci – Guilty

Gucci - Guilty

Made for a woman who is bold, beautiful, and indulgent, this fragrance exudes power. The fragrance opens with mandarin and pink pepper notes, follows with peach and lilac notes, and finishes with amber and patchouli. This fragrance will leave you feeling confident with a daring edge of sexiness.

When I put this fragrance on, I knew it was an instant hit for me. The fragrance is light and subtle, so as to not overpower my sensitive nose, yet smells divine and instantly added a little pep to my high-heeled step! Who knew a fragrance really COULD leave you feeling confident and give you an extra edge? (I assure you I didn’t read the reviews until this morning!) The fragrance lasted through the evening and I could even smell faint hints of the fragrance once I woke up the following morning. It really settled into my skin well and created an ideal balance for me. It would be great as an everyday scent or as a special occasion fragrance — and I love when a fragrance has that kind of versatility!

Conclusion: Absolutely love! I have a feeling this one will stay in the top 3.

Marc Jacobs – Daisy

Made for a woman who is feminine, as a daisy, yet sophisticated and has a playful sense of ease. The fragrance opens with wild strawberry, follows with violet leaves, and finishes with ruby-red grapefruit. This fragrance will have you conveying a flirty innocence that will make you want to kick up your heels and frolic in the sun.

In complete stark contrast to the light Gucci scent, this fragrance is STRONG and POWERFUL. It sprays on strong and stays on strong. Heaven help you if you spray your wrist, your neck, AND your body. *cough cough* And my poor little nose just can’t handle it! I’ve had the fragrance on twice now, and both times I’ve ended up with a headache. It is playful and flirty, (and comes in a cute bottle!) but this one just simply isn’t for me. It’s likely the mix of violet and grapefruit — both very powerful and dominant — in the fragrance that is hurting my head. If you like strong fragrances that will stay put, this one might be worth trying out! Once it ¬†marginally dissipates, it does smell nice.

Conclusion: This one will be going in the back of the drawer or be used to scent cards or other mailings in the future!

Have you tried either of these fragrances? What do you think? TWEET ME!

Until tomorrow. XOXO – K

We all know that girls night out is fun; oh so much fun. But, there is something about a girls night in that can be equally fun (and so much cheaper!)

Last week, my friend from Drogheda came by for a girls night in–well, mostly in. I had no food in the house so we popped around the corner to one of my favourite drinking establishments, The Waterloo Bar & Grill, for a quick bite and a few 5 Euro cocktails. [Try the Cuba Libre — muy deliciosa!]

Being back on the crazy workout schedule I’m on, I had run 4.5 miles earlier in the day in addition to doing Level 2 of the Jillian Michaels 30-day shred. A shower wasn’t a question so much as a mandatory statement. And if I’m going through all that trouble, well, I might as well glam up for dinner, right?

A little dab of powder, my favorite dark grey eye liner, and a bright fuscia lip is all I needed thanks to my post-workout glow. [Do we call that Runner’s High? Maybe…]

Throw on a brightly colored fuscia dress that was stolen from my sister, a matching watch (because I’m always punctual!), add a pair of sheer tights, and throw on the lacey ankle boots; Voila! Ready for dinner.

OOTD - 1.23.14

I don’t so much have a clue where the dress is from. Actually, the only thing I’m REALLY sure of its origins, are the shoes. And they are Ann Taylor Loft shoes, purchased about two years ago now. I actually left these shoes in the U.S. when I moved with a very dear friend of mine because she loved them so much, but I borrowed them while I stayed with her in Nashville and she insisted I bring them back to Dublin with me — so Lauren, this is for you babe!

Post dinner, it was just girl gab at my house with a bottle of vino. There might’ve been cupcakes and living room dancing, eventually, but I’ll never tell!

This past week I was browsing through the Sephora website, with no particular end game in mind. Hubby had journeyed back to the U.S. for a work assignment for the week so I figured browsing wouldn’t hurt since I could have the package shipped to his hotel IF I found something. (IF, really?)

Now, I’m not a HUGE fan of perfumes, because I have a rather sensitive nose, but I desperately wanted to try a new scent or two.¬†When I was in the Sephora store over Christmas, I saw the Sephora Favorites Fragrance set. It retails for $65 and contains 14 of the most popular fragrances sold at Sephora. I almost bought it at that time, but my shopping bag was full of other goodies and I just couldn’t afford it then!

Sephora Perfume Sampler2

How does a girl solve her dilemmas (especially once she realizes Sephora has the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette in stock!)? She redeems her credit card points for an e-certificate of course! Now, I am the proud owner of both the Sephora Favorites Fragrance set AND the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette.

So, why did I want this particular fragrance set? Well, as I mentioned, it contains 14 samples of the most popular fragrances, such as Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue and Givenchy’s¬†Very¬†Irresistible.

Sephora Perfume Sampler

Before you go thinking $65 is a bit ridiculous for SAMPLES, the set contains a card for you to redeem (in-store) to receive a full size fragrance once you decide which of the 14 samples you like best. Not such a bad deal considering that a good chunk of these perfumes are designer brands whose fragrances retail between $60-$75 right?

To find the fragrance I’ll be redeeming my card for next time I’m in the U.S., I’ll be doing a new, weekly installment series testing each of these fragrances out. I’ll provide you with photos of each fragrance, perfume notes, and my personal opinion on each fragrance for me. And of course, some of you might even like to give these a while yourselves, so I’ll provide you with links where you can make your purchases — whether you are in the U.S. or abroad!

Have you tried out any of these fragrances? Have any opinions to share? Tweet me! And, stay tuned for the first installment, coming Thursday, featuring Gucci’s Guilty.

It has been a little too cold for my liking lately. And the wind! Just, brrr. I’d like to think I could just hibernate in my home until spring drops warmer temperatures and sunny skies upon us, but alas, I have to eat and delivery is just out of my price range at this state. So, I’m left to thrown on my clothes, scarf, hat, gloves, wellies, and wooly coat and leave the house.

But what about all those dresses hanging in my closet? It’s a cryin’ shame to only get to wear those for the six months out of the year where it is warm enough, right? I’m brave enough to pull those dresses out and throw on a pair of tights, but inevitably I always seem to get a ladder or otherwise ruin my tights — which sends me back out into the cold to find another pair! Somehow, someone read my mind as I was contacted by a team member over at Panther Legwear — and their timing was perfect! (A huge thanks to my newfound friend, Signe of The Daily Savant, for the referral!)
