Archives For Stylish Installments

Meet Vanessa, the lovely and talented face behind ReadyDressedGo.

She is absolutely amazing and oh so much fun! And her blog, well, I spend a lot of time at my computer, but it’s always one of the first blogs I check daily. I absolutely adore her, and she’s a big fan — which doesn’t hurt either. 😉

She recently had a post on her blog about blue lippies. And she has some awesome blue shoes, so, I’ve dedicated blue as her color for the interview! (Finding one that was easy on the eyes and still held to my point was difficult!)

Q1: So you have a blog. What was your inspiration & why do you do what you do?
I’ve always loved fashion & clothes & glamour ever since I can remember. I think as a child I watched “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” 10,000 times. The quality of fashion & beauty as a transformative device, where you can be whomever you want to be every single day is mesmerizing. Also, I’ve always loved art & making things, so making things to wear I have been doing since I was able to walk.

Q2: If you could spend a day 10,000 feet in the air with any fashion icon (past or present), who would you cozy up to and what ONE burning question would you ask?
I would pick Richard Avedon. My favorite photographer of all time. and I would ask, “how did you learn the most beautiful angles to highlight the human body?”

Q3: If you could time travel, what decade would you land in?
1965 London. I would have someone paint my body in a checkerboard print on the floor of a fabulous party.

Q4: QUICK! Your house is on fire and you can save only three personal belongings, (your family is already safe!) what are you fighting fire for?

1) My favorite 1970s “Foxy Brown” bright orangey red polyester dress, it’s the best piece of clothing I own. You can dress it up, down, for any season, it makes a statement, and I always get compliments.

2) My favorite piece of artwork in my home (which was made by my favorite artist, my friend Denyse

3) My black Mackage jacket, we’ve been together for years and I’m not going to let a little thing like a house fire tear us apart.

Q5: Oh hey! You were just nominated for an Oscar for your awesome role in that awesome winter blockbuster. Who will be making your dress for the Red Carpet?
I know EXACTLY what I would wear to the Oscars! Alexander McQueen’s 2003 Rainbow Shipwreck gown. That is exactly me.

Q6: You recently got back from a trip to Nashville, where cowboy boots are a BIG THING. Most gals pair their boots with dresses, but, how would YOU style your boots?
Yeeeeeesh. This is a tough one. I LOVED the style of the people of Nashville, and had the best time there! But I grew up in a town where cowboy boots were functional wear! I was born & raised in the country! So there are a couple of things I just cannot wear because of that: cowboy boots, camouflage, and flannel.

But I think that if I had to have a pair I would pair them with leggings and a dress/skirt. Because boots + leggings + skirt/dress is my cute and comfy win win combo for life.

Q7: What is your signature lip color for a night out at Drag Queen Bingo?
OOOH!! Yes! MAC Morange or MAC Saint Germain! I LOVE a creamy opaque super bright lippy!

Q8: If you could advise new bloggers of anything you’ve learned in hindsight, what would you say?
Here is the best piece of advice I can give to bloggers: ALWAYS BE BLOGGING FOR YOURSELF. Do not blog for Money, or Fame, or to Be Cool, or Get Swag.

Do it because you love it, and you have something to say.

Because you shouldn’t be blogging to get the most page views, you should be blogging because it’s something that pours out of your heart. I love fashion, I love writing about it, I LOVE seeing the red carpet arrivals, and I love glamour and makeup.

I don’t know about you, but those are some DARN good responses. She’s just so amazing! Bloggers, her advice to you (us) is simply amazing and it’s why she and I tweet the #FashionUnfold events every month. Do it for YOU.

OK, my little rant is over. Because I know after those responses you are dying to see what I asked her for the fill-in-the-blank session!

It’s been far too long since I had an installment post up here, and I must sincerely apologise to Rachel for this! I’ve been working on her post for ages, but due to my hiatus, her interview just landed in never-never land; But that changes today!

And so, without further ado, meet Rachel of Sweetpea London, a lifestyle and beauty blogger just across the pond from me. She’s a fun, albeit busy, gal whose blog I absolutely love reading. It is so very different from my own, which is what generally draws me in and keeps my attention!

Lights, Camera, Spotlight: Rachel

Q1: What was your inspiration behind starting your blog?
I started blogging when I heard about it at a Fashion company I interned for. I wanted to keep an online diary of events and work that I could show my future employers.

Q2: If you had to guess, how many different beauty products do you have in your house?
There is my mum, my sister, and me in the house so I would say well over 100 products! (And my sister buys the most!)

Q3: If you could have any make-up artist glam you up for an event, what brand would you choose?
I would defiantly choose Chanel.

Q4: What is your stance on blow-outs – yay or nay?

Q5: What is in your beauty bag right now, as you head out the door to work?
I don’t wear makeup, only lip balm and mascara and a good moisturizer. [Love.Life.Fashion. note: What I wouldn’t give to have younger, healthier skin again! LOVE this for her.]

Q6: What is your go-to beauty look for a night out with the gals?
I prefer to go out looking natural so I tend to just wear mascara and some kind of red lip balm. [Love.Life.Fashion. note: There’s nothing a gal can’t conquer with mascara and a red lip — you know I’ve said it before!]

Q7: If you were given 15 minutes at your favorite beauty counter/store, to grab anything you wanted, free of charge, what five items would you ensure were in your bag when time was called?
1. Any Chanel nail varnishes
2. Clinique surge moisturiser
3. Clinique hydration lip balm
4. YSL Shocking Mascara
5. Chanel beauty mirror

I lover her honesty and innocence when it comes to her beauty routine. Don’t wear it if you don’t need it! Just one of the many reasons why I adore her. Now, for the fun moments!

My signature lip color is…Chanel Rebelle
My favorite film is… I don’t actually have one, but something funny and with a happy ending
My song of the moment is…Miley Cyrus Wreaking Ball
The perfume I cannot live without is…Vera Wang Princess
One item on my vanity is…The O.C set perfume that I’ve had for years in it’s box
My signature color is…purple

One of my guilty pleasures is… anything Chocolate
If I could attend afternoon tea with someone famous it would be…Adam Brody
One winter product I cannot live without is…Clinique surge moisturizer

If you are looking for a lifetsyle and beauty blog, definitely stop by and check her out. You’ll be so glad you did! You can also find Rachel on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr.

Until next week! XOXO – K

My second interview of the Lights, Camera, Spotlight series starts NOW.

Meet my lovely friend Jenny, the inquisitive & inspirational brains behind A Fashionable Paradise. She and I tweeted together during New York Fashion Week in August and since then she’s opened a whole new set of doors for me by exposing me to the monthly Fashion Unfold events. This gal is the real deal: she’s honest, she’s genuine, and she is a shining star on the darkest of nights when she challenges your fashionable brain and makes you think outside your box.

She can certainly hold her own and there aren’t enough adjectives to describe how stoked I am to have this opportunity to share some of her insights with you!

Lights, Camera, Spotlight: Jenny

Q1: What inspired you to start your blog?
I’ve always had incredibly strong opinions about everything, which is something I embrace. I not only noticed that many didn’t seem to easily voice their opinions in fashion, but I also knew that it was something I was and am very passionate about.

I admire those that do post frequently, but at heart, I consider myself a girl with many fashion design ideas who’s looking to share her views of fashion with others, hopefully making people think about things from different angles. A discussion, a genuine conversation, is the beginning of many great things. Thoughts arise and greatness can be evoked from that.

Q2: If you could spend a day with any fashion icon (past or present), who would you cozy up to?
AH! Can I choose two? I have to! This is a tie between Audrey Hepburn and Dita Von Teese. I adore Audrey– how caring she was as well as her style and her movies. I think we would have a lot to talk about over tea(but not with a Danish pastry because I read she never actually liked those, despite having to eat one in Breakfast At Tiffany’s)

As for Dita, I wish I could raid her entire wardrobe, every last piece. I love when looks go retro, from the apparel to the makeup. Although my mind is more so fitting for how open things have become, a part of me truly does feel as though I belong in a decade from, say, the 40s or 50s.

Q3: If you were headed to the Red Carpet and could have any designer make your gown, what label would we see you in?
Oooh! This really would depend on the mood around the time, but I would say it would probably be Dolce & Gabbana. Dolce & Gabbana, following the baroque nature, is elaborate and elegant. Their Fall 2012 RTW collection is my favourite that they’ve done. The pieces that I would kill to have?… the list is ENDLESS. If I was going onto the Red Carpet, I would want to make an unforgettable statement that showcases how truly artistic fashion can be.

Q4: We tweeted NYFW together this year, but if you could attend one fashion week, any of the hundreds of fashion weeks, what city would you land in?
With my strong desire to travel and my love of designers from multiple cities… oy, this is a difficult question. I’m going with NYFW, as Oscar de la Renta, Betsey Johnson, Alice + Olivia, and more show at it, but it definitely was close with Paris and Milan, as it would be a dream scene to see Elie Saab as well as Dolce & Gabbana (separate cities, yes, but still!)

Q5: If your apartment/house was on fire and you could save only three things, what would you be battling flames for?
1) My dog-child, Missy(even though I don’t consider her a thing, she would need to get out!);
2) Old photos with important documents;
3) All of my sketches! [Love.Life.Fashion. note: If you haven’t seen her sketches, you are seriously missing out!]

Q6: What is your favorite trend of the fall/winter season and what one item can you not live without (even if it’s a fad item)?
My favourite trend this fall/winter season is how much red is being embraced! I’ll always love it, but it makes me just as excited as when the Union Jack had its moment, or the rise of tutus.

The one item I cannot live without? I can technically live without it, but the one item that makes me feel the opposite would be my iPhone. It has my music, the phone, and access to knowing what is happening globally within just seconds. (Past favorite cell phone case pictured)

AIW Phone Case

Q7: I’m a not a lipstick junkie, but my “office” lipstick drastically differs from my “around town” lipstick. That said, what is your signature lip color for a night out with the girls?
Whether it’s the daytime and I’m working on coursework or if it’s the night-time and I’m going somewhere, red lipstick is my absolute favourite. Red says to me, “I’m a classic yet modern, sleek yet not snobby, and confident but still always ready to embrace whatever mood I’m in, fun or serious.”

Q8: What is your go-to fashion look for a casual Saturday around town?
I’m not so good with casual… but I would say a black blouse, long flowing maxi skirt, high heels, and a purse that can carry everything I need easily, but also isn’t a burden to tote all about.

Q9: If you were brand new to the blogging world, what advice would you give yourself looking back on your journey?
I don’t think there’s anything I would do differently. However, if I had to tell someone my advice for someone new to the blogging world, this is how it would go: Always give your true opinion, blog because you wish to, and never become locked into the mentality of “what’s popular to blog right now? What’s expected?” Ask yourself: what do you want to say? How do you want to say it? What do you want to see when you open your blog? How can I put a unique spin on this?

Go from there. Blogging, like many other artistic things, relates back to passion. Do it for passion, not because it’s popular.

And of course, I couldn’t help but ask her a few quick, fill-in-the-blank questions! It just puts a really positive and fun spin on the end of an interview, doesn’t it?

My cell phone cover isMickey. (Apparently Alice in Wonderland is not as popular as I’d like!)
My favorite movie isGrease
My favorite book isThe Fault In Our Stars by John Green.
My go to drink isTEA! Always, TEA!
The technology I cannot live without isMy iPhone.
My signature color isRed (usually with black)
The one place in the world I want most to visit isEngland!
My biggest guilty pleasure isGetting into my PJs and spending a lot of time relaxing with TV or music.
My ideal weekend consists ofTraveling somewhere, drinking tea, eating good food, and… CUPCAKES!
The three songs that I’ve been listening to most lately areThe Monster (feat. Rihanna) by Eminem, Primadonna by Marina & the Diamonds, and Broken by Depeche Mode.

Do you love her yet? You should better! As I said, I’m so thankful I got to know her a little better from this and can’t wait to see what big things are in store for her in the future. Thank you Jenny!

Stop by her blog and have a read: A Fashionable Paradise and you can follow her via Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, AND Instagram. Come on, get social!

Until next week. XOXO – K

My new installment series is finally here! My FIRST blogger interview. I know after the sneak peek , you’ve been waiting all week for this post (and I’ve spent all week writing it!).

I’ve been virtual friends with the lovely Rebecca Casserly, the gal behind the scenes of Bec Boop Fashionista World, since moving to Dublin this past spring. Recently, she was in town for an event and I had the pleasure of finally meeting her face-to-face and I picked her brain a little as we chatted over coffee. She’s even more fab in person and I’m so happy we finally had the chance to connect offline!

Rebecca Casserly

The lovely Rebecca Casserly

She and I have much in common in that we’re both accountants with a passion for fashion and I simply adore her blog and her dedication to it! Sometimes you’ll find her blogging during late night hours to ensure she’s keeping her content fresh and her readers happy, even after a long day in the office. How could you NOT admire that kind of dedication and commitment? Simply put: she is one amazing gal and I am inspired by her every time I read her posts. She even took time out of her busy schedule to let me ask her some questions so you too can see how fabulous she is!

Lights, Camera, Spotlight: Bec Boop Fashionista

Because we’re both accountants, and we know that your equations have to balance (A+L=E), I’m presenting this interview in two balanced parts.  I love good accounting humor! 🙂 Here are Rebecca’s thought and insights on the fashion/beauty side of the equation:

Q1: What inspired you to start Bec Boop Fashionista World?
I have always loved writing and when I was young I dreamed of a career in journalism. Yet, somehow I ended up as an accountant along the way! With some encouragement from my fiancé, who studies media and journalism, and my passion for fashion and beauty, Bec Boop Fashionista World was born to help me explore avenues outside of accounting.

Q2: Do you have a motto, either personal or professional?
I do not have a motto, as such, but I tend to live my life through plans, organisation and structure. This is where my accounting and blogging skills combine to help me find time to work, blog, spend time with friends and family and also still have some much-needed me-time. Without organisation I would not be able to keep doing all the things I love.

Q3: If you could meet ANY fashion icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl! This is my all-time favourite TV show and I love everything about Blair’s fashion style. She always looks effortlessly elegant and chic and I love how she took ‘the hairband’ from being a simple accessory to a much-needed staple item in her looks.

Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl

Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl

Q4: If you had to choose one, and only one, Fashion Week to attend, what city would you land in?
My ultimate goal is to attend New York Fashion Week because I love everything about New York!

Q5: What is your signature lip color?
Vintage Pink from Rimmel is my favourite lip colour as it is perfect for the day-to-night look. I wear it every day!

Q6: What is your favorite high street store?
I always leave New Look with a bag full of purchases so this is definitely my favourite high street store. The clothing is of good quality, is attractively priced, and the store offers selections  for every day wear as well as the office. Additionally, their shoe collection would fulfill every woman’s desires!

Q7: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment as a blogger?
I recently organised and hosted the Galway Bloggers Party, which was the first such event in the West of Ireland and I was overwhelmed by the response and attendance at the event! Over 60 bloggers arrived to network, view the stalls, and watch the fashion show. I hope to make this a semi-annual event and something us Galway bloggers can look forward to.

Bec Boop at the Galway Bloggers Party

Q8: What is your go-to fashion look?
I’ll admit, my go-to fashion look changes quite regularly.  At the moment I love a simple buttoned up blouse teamed with an extravagant statement necklace. This is a great day-to-night look and looks great with jeans, skirts or shorts to make a simple but stylish fashion statement.

Q9: As a blogger I often get asked for advice. Turning that on you, what two pieces of advice would you give to new bloggers just coming into the market?
1. Make sure to take time before you set anything up to pick a simple and catchy name that represents you and your blog.

2. Network, network, network – get business cards done up at an early stage and give them to contacts you meet at blogger meet-ups and events.

And of course, you can’t just have hard, structured questions — that’s no fun! So here, the other half of the equation, are the fun questions:

One thing you don’t know about me isI’m a natural redhead! Over the years my hair has become slightly darker, which I love however I am constantly being asked if I dye my hair and so to set the record straight – no!

My favorite film isNotting Hill, I absolutely love British rom-coms and Notting Hill is my all-time favourite movie. This was also the first movie I watched with my fiancé over six years ago and so it holds a very special place in my heart.

My favorite part of the world isI am a lover of big city life and New York is my favourite part in the world. I dream of sitting on the steps of the Met Museum with a coffee in hand, Gossip Girl style. I got engaged in Times Square last year and get to visit this amazing city quite regularly as my fiance’s family live just outside the city.

My signature color isSince a very young age my favourite colour has been black, which might surprise my fashionista followers, as I can be quite girly too. Black however is always my colour of choice especially in fashion as it is such a versatile colour and can be worn with almost every trend.

One of your guilty pleasures isHaribo sweets! I could polish off a large bag of Starmix or Tangfastics in seconds!

Your go to coffee drink isLarge caramel latte, perfect for that morning caffeine, sugar combo kick.

Now that we know that fashion + beauty = fun, I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Bec Boop a little. And I hope you’ve found a new blog to follow as well! And, of course, don’t forget to stop by and say hello to Bec Boop on Twitter and on Facebook.

Until next week — happy weekending everyone! XOXO – K

Happy Friday everyone! I am so excited to reveal a few things to you with today’s post! (So excited in fact that I barely slept a wink last night. More coffee!)

*Drum roll please*

Starting next week, I will begin a new installment series in which I will feature weekly interviews with a fashion and/or beauty blogger who is influential and inspirational to me personally. I couldn’t be happier about those that have volunteered already and am looking forward to writing up their articles in the weeks ahead–I’m so excited about this project!

I know you are just DYING to know what kinds of questions I’ve been asking, so to kick off my new series, I’ve turned some of those same questions around on myself! And, now, I proudly present to you, a sneak peak at what’s ahead (and yes, each feature will have a different font color!):

Lights, Camera, Spotlight: ME

Q1: What words do you live by?
A1: “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” It applies in every aspect of life, but I’ve seen the most noticeable results in the office!

Q2: If money were no object, what one item would you consider a must-have?
A2: I’ve said since I was 18 that one day I WILL own a pair of Manolo’s, but my absolute must have is a pair of Valentino D’Orsay Crystal Bow pumps. I’ve been lusting after those shoes for about 6 years now!

Q3: What is your signature lip color?
A3: Lancome’s Color Design Lipstick in “Trendy Mauve”. It’s a great every day shade that is neutral enough for the office but pops enough to wear on a night out.

Lancome trendy muave

Q4: What advice would you give to new bloggers?
A4: My biggest pet peeve right now related to the blogosphere is on people who have links to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets on their blog but never ever respond to interactions. If you are going to go digital, you need to commit 100% and most importantly you HAVE (not need) to be responsive to grow your brand.

In addition to the “thinking” questions, I’m also presenting the bloggers with a set of fun, fill-in-the-blank type questions. Here are those that I turned on myself:

One thing you don’t know about me is: I’ve seen “Wicked: The Musical” four times and have tickets to see it again
My signature color is: Red
My dream holiday is: Two weeks in Bora Bora

Of course, I’ve asked the bloggers many, many, more questions but I want you to come back for more, so I’m only giving you a preview of what’s in store in the weeks to come. I am beyond excited to bring you this series, and I do hope you’ll enjoy it!

See you next week! XOXO – K
