Daily Denim

May 8, 2013 — 1 Comment

Throughout the years I’ve seen magazine article after magazine article about denim.  “The right denim for your body type”, “X number of pages dedicated to denim”, etc.  Not all denim is created equal, just as what works for my body type might not work for yours.  Denim is a tricky little creature and when it comes to finding a pair of jeans I’m probably the second most picky person on the planet (only second to my friend Jennifer who I once spent 2 hours in a jeans shop with while she tried on every single pair in the store and still didn’t make a purchase!).  Until last week, I hadn’t purchased a pair of denim jeans since 2007.  [Don’t scoff! I worked in an office and the only time I ever even wore jeans was a random casual Friday or when I ventured out into the world on weekends during the winter.  (Summer was dedicated to skirts/crops)]

Now that I’m currently not working, I’ve invested in a few more pairs recently.  Bootcut jeans are working for me right now as they help hide my chicken legs a little by adding a little shape to my calves and evening out my hip/caboose ratio.  However, on the flip side, I’m also digging the skinny jeans — the darker, the better.  What’s that saying, “Black is slimming?” Well, a super dark blue washed jean will accomplish the same mission.  And pairs well with just about anything in your closet.  It’s probably the most versatile because it can be dressed up or down depending on what mission you are trying to accomplish that day. Of course, you also need to own black!

When all is said and done, don’t be afraid to be picky in your hunt for the perfect denim.  If you have to spend two weeks looking and hit over 30 stores, DO IT.  When you find the perfect pair, you will know.  And don’t let the price tag scare you or scare you away– I own some very expensive jeans as well as some pretty cheap ones and I love them all for different reasons!

OK, enough talk.  Here’s what’s working for me:

After weeks and weeks living abroad, I’m finally starting to see the effects of all the walking.  I got so excited about this, and the fact that you could walk outside without a coat (in the sun) for the first time since we moved, that I dolled myself up for a quick photo! The no-coat was short lived because it was quite a windy day, but I did manage to snap a good photo nonetheless.
